Cyanobacteria ADVISORY & WATCH in Chilmark Pond

Cyanobacteria sampling collected in Chilmark Pond on 09/05/23 indicates that the cyanobacteria bloom from the Middle Part of the pond has spread through Doctor's Creek, Able's Hill Crossing, and the southern portions of Lower Chilmark Pond and the harmful Algal Bloom "ADVISORY" is now in place in these parts of the pond. The bloom is now visible in most pond regions, excluding the northeast portion, which is assigned a "WATCH" status.

Please know that conditions can change rapidly. Please report any further bloom spreading to MV CYANO or the Chilmark Board of Health office. The MV CYANO page is now updated to reflect the presence of a bloom: https://greatpondfoundation.org/mvcyano/.

As a reminder, the Island Boards of Health recommend that humans and pets stay out of blooming waters because of the potential negative impacts of cyanotoxins, if present. The Chilmark Board of Health highly recommends no shellfishing until the bloom has cleared. Please see the attached signs for full recommendations.
