How do I find information on the street list?

The General Laws of Massachusetts mandate an annual street listing of residents as of January 1st each year (M.G.L. ch. 51 § 4). The Town of Chilmark sends out census forms to every household in Chilmark each year, at the end of January or beginning of February. Forms are due back to our office within 10 days.

A street list is published each year containing the names and addresses of every resident 17 years of age or older, in accordance with M.G.L. ch. 51 § 6.

If the information that is pre-printed on your census form is correct, please sign the form and send it back to the Town Hall within 10 days using the enclosed self-addressed envelope. If the information needs to be updated, you can add, delete or make changes directly onto your census form and mail it back to the Town Hall for those changes to be made.

If you are a registered voter, failure to respond to the annual Town census may result in removal from the active voting list.

If you are not a registered voter, it is still important for you to return your census form – many public benefits require proof of residency. In addition, an accurate count of residents in Chilmark leads to better municipal services.
