Sixth PFAS testing with Barnstable Lab is scheduled for Friday - January 9, 2026

Dear Chilmark Residents,

The Chilmark Board of Health has scheduled another round of testing for PFAS with Barnstable County Laboratory for Friday, January 9. The Lab will accept 20 samples from Chilmark Board of Health. At this time, this program is for Chilmark residents only. 

  • Testing fee: $265 (checks payable to Barnstable County)
  • Transportation fee: waived this time - the Health Agent will deliver samples to the lab
  • Homeowners are responsible for all fees associated with testing.

Sampling Instructions: Sampling kits include two bottles and detailed instructions. Please read the instructions carefully, wear the provided gloves during collection, and complete the chain of custody form. Barnstable County Lab is a public entity, so test results will be automatically sent to the Chilmark Board of Health. No special form is needed. The turnaround time is 15 business days. 

Sample bottle Pick-up & Drop-Off details:

  • Pick up sampling kits: Thursday, January 8 at the Chilmark Building Department Office (BOH/Building Departments share the assistant) – first come, first served
  • Collect samples: Morning of Friday, January 9
  • Drop off samples: Between 8:00 and 8:30 am on Friday, January 9 at the Board of Health Office
  • Please complete the chain of custody form at home before you drop off the sample

The Health Agent will depart Town Hall at 8:30 to take 9:30 am boat to deliver samples to Barnstable Lab. Please arrive on time - late samples cannot be accepted.
