Public Health Recommendations for Tisbury Great Pond

On Wednesday, August 2, 2023, Great Pond Foundation’s team went to every cove and corner of Tisbury Great Pond (TGP) in order to search for cyanobacteria visually and to also bring samples back to the laboratory for testing. This comprehensive testing allowed the West Tisbury and Chilmark Boards of Health (BOH) to provide cyanobacteria public health recommendations for the entire pond.

Cyanobacteria and their associated toxins can shift with the wind and moving water, and conditions can change between the pond's samplings. The map below, with hatch marks across the pond, represents the recommendations of the BOH. The map below with the dots represents a compilation of all the samples that were collected by GPF and the TGP community.
