American Sign Language (ASL) Resources
The Martha's Vineyard American Sign Language Webinar Project
Martha's Vineyard, particularly the town of Chilmark, used to be a "shared-signing community," where both deaf and hearing residents used sign language and finger spelling to communicate. Today Martha's Vineyard hosts many deaf visitors who come to learn more about the island's deaf history. In 2024, Professor Jody Cripps of Clemson University and his students partnered with the Martha's Vineyard Chamber of Commerce to create webinars to help the island become a sign-language friendly environment once again.
