Peaked Hill Pastures Community Engagement Session II: Monday, July 26, 2021, 6PM

The Town of Chilmark is holding the second in a series of 3 community meetings to discuss development opportunities for the Peaked Hill Pastures property on Monday, July 26^th at 6:00 p.m.  This site is owned by the Town of Chilmark and includes 16.67 acres off Pasture Road. 

The first community meeting, held on June 14^th, focused on a review of the work to date by the Planning Board’s Project Subcommittee, an update of housing needs, recommendations by the Peaked Hill Pastures Proposal Committee, and a description of the basic characteristics of the site.  Most of the session was importantly devoted to questions and observations by the 40+ participants in the Webinar.  Janet Weidner, Chair of the Subcommittee, stated, “The meeting demonstrated positive and constructive support for the concept of creating a pocket community on the property with suggestions including the creation of both homeownership and rental units with a potential multigenerational approach.  We are hoping for the continued involvement of the community as we move forward in the process of conceptualizing this new housing opportunity in Chilmark.”

The Planning Board invites all those interested in this potential project to join it on Monday, July 26^th at 6:00 p.m. to further discuss options for creating a pocket community on the property.  Consultant Karen Sunnarborg will present some diverse models of effective community housing approaches on Martha’s Vineyard and off-Island and then help facilitate a discussion on options for developing the property.
