Lamb Cycle
The Lamb Cycle: Two Dates with Kate Feiffer. Wednesday, June 7, 5:00 PM, and Saturday, June 17 at 12:00 PM.

What if “Mary Had a Little Lamb” had been written by Lord Byron, William Shakespeare, John Keats, Robert Browning or Emily Brontë? In The Lamb Cycle, retired English professor David Ewbank reimagines the story of Mary and her lamb as told through the great English poets. D.H. Lawrence’s Mary longs for her lamb as any woman longing for her lover, whilst T.S. Eliot’s Mary is recollected by an old man looking back on his life. Alexander Pope writes an “An Essay on Lambs,” and Tennyson’s lotus eaters become “The Clover Eater.” Brilliantly written, sophisticated, and laugh-out-loud funny, these poems, enhanced by Vineyard resident Kate Feiffer’s witty and whimsical illustrations, will enchant anyone who has ever read an English poem and engage those who haven’t.
