Wednesday, June 29, 5:00: Jim Thomas and the U.S. Slave Song Project Spirituals Choir

The U.S. Slave Song Project Spirituals Choir will perform songs sung by African slaves in America between 1619 and1865.The goals of the Slave Song Project includes bringing history alive in an approachable way for a modern audience to celebrate the courage and resilience of the human spirit. Jim will also talk about his new book, A Guidebook for Young People Studying US Slave Songs.

James (Jim) E. Thomas is founder and president of the U.S. Slave Songs Project. He has given presentations internationally and since 1976 he has been the founder-director of he American Red Cross Chorus at Red Cross national headquarters in Washington, D.C. Mr. Thomas sang with the world-renowned Fisk Jubilee Singers at Fisk University, the Robert Shaw Chorale in Atlanta, and the Paul Hill Chorale as soloist at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.
