Flower Diary with Molly Peacock
Tuesday, March 1, 7:00 PM: Flower Diary: Mary Hiester Reid Paints, Travels, Marries & Opens a Door, with author Molly Peacock.
Molly Peacock looks at the balancing act of female creativity and domesticity in the Edwardian Age with the life of Mary Hiester Reid, a virtually unknown painter who produced over three hundred stunning, emotive florals, still lifes, and landscapes. Trained by Thomas Eakins at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Mary trailblazed a life where she fought for her place as a professional artist without having to live as a tragic heroine.
Molly Peacock is the author of seven books of poetry, including The Analyst, The Second Blush and Cornucopia: New & Selected Poems. She is also the author of several books of prose and a memoir, Paradise, Piece by Piece. Her poems have appeared in The New Yorker, The Nation, The New Republic, and The Paris Review.
