WELCOME!  The Town of Chilmark has facilities that are available for rent to our citizens and area communities.  These are not function halls.  Our facilities are accessible.  A balloon-tire wheelchair is available at Lucy Vincent and Menemsha Beaches.

Community Center Rules & General Information

General Information:

  • The CCC is primarily for Town & School related business and Town resident use.  A non-resident can be sponsored by a Town resident to have an event at the Center but the sponsor must attend the event.  Some events may require approval from the Board of Selectmen.  
  • Excessive drinking is not permitted on the premises and is the responsibility of the lessee and/or sponsor to prevent such behavior, liability insuranceis requested.
  • The CCC has a maximum occupancy capacity of 250 people.  There are approximately 300 chairs: 102 metal, 244 padded.  Banquet tables: twelve 8ft long and one 6ft long.  2 quarter round tables. 5 half round Tables and chairs are available to use for no additional cost but donations are encouraged.    
  • Under the Clean Indoor Air Act, smoking is not permitted within any Town building.  
  •       There is a “No Noise” Policy according to common law from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.  Therefore, no amplified music can be played after 10:00 p.m.  
  • Requests to put up any type of tent must be PRE-APPROVED by the Selectmen & Building Inspector.  Tents must be Fire Marshal Approved.
  • Please note when renting the CCC for your event, you are allowed to be at the CCC for that time only.  Please do not assume it is okay to unload, set-up, or allow rental companies to come in sooner than the day you begin your rental, unless approved by the CCC scheduler.
  • A security/cleaning deposit of $250.00 is mandatory, prior to occupying the CCC for your event. Your security/cleaning deposited will be refunded to you on the condition that the above outlined rules are strictly followed. Checks should be made payable to the Town of Chilmark.        
  • Please see new fee schedule as of January 8, 2019.  Checks should be made payable to the Town of Chilmark.  No refunds on deposits if events are canceled.
  • There are no public events allowed June 25 through August 25 due to the CCC Summer Program.  
  • No commercial events are allowed at the CCC.  
  • Please call (508) 645-2100 ext. 0 to inquire or book a CCC event.  
Please note:  Parking is not allowed on the playing fields for private events.
 Parking is not allowed at the Library during its hours of operation.

Selectmen's Meeting ROOM
At the conclusion of your event the Chilmark Community Center (CCC) should be left in the exact same manner in which you found it.  Please review the following checklist to use as a guideline when cleaning the premises:

  • Doors and windows should be shut and properly secured.
  • All tables and chairs are to be wiped clean and neatly stacked and stored, organized in the racks and put back in chair room.  Please do not drag tables and chairs across the floor.
  • All garbage must be removed from the premise at the end of your event.
  • All bathrooms must be cleaned and garbage cans emptied.
  • Kitchen must be left clean, including wiping down all counters, sinks, stove, refrigerator and freezer.
  • All floors must be swept and washed.
  • All items used to decorate rooms (tape, tacks, pushpins, nails, etc.) must be completely removed from walls, ceilings, doors etc. at the end of your event.
  • Police the outside grounds for any debris left behind such as cigarette butts, bottles, cups, napkins etc. and dispose of them properly after your event has concluded.

Regulations for Town of Chilmark Beach Department

1) Only one event a week will be scheduled per beach. This is done on a first come basis.
2) Events shall not exceed forty people.
3) Permit from the board of health must be submitted from the catering company along with permit for catered beach event, the catering company must submit the menu to BOH.
4) A copy of the catering company’s license must be on file with the Town of Chilmark and can be submitted along with application.
5) For a gathering over ten people. Taxies or mini-buses are required for transportation. No cars will be allowed in Menemsha for these events. Parking is limited at Squinocket Beach Carpooling, Taxies or mini-buses are required applicants may not reserve parking spaces for either beach
6) No tents or chairs are allowed.
7) The permit tee is responsible for the removal of ALL trash. Town trash cans or dumpsters may NOT be used.
8) All events on Menemsha Beach will be to the east of the second groin and they will not have exclusive use of any portion of the beach.
9) Hours of events are limited to 5:00 PM- 11:00 PM
10) All applications must be signed by the Police Chief. If you are planning to have a fire to cook   Fire Chief must also sign application. If event is catered the Board of Health must also sign application. Do not submit application before ALL appropriate departments have approved.
11) Applications will be submitted to the superintendent of beaches only after the Police Chief, Fire Chief and the Board of Health for the final approval have signed them.
12) Please include a letter explaining any special conditions that may exist.

Cook out Menemsha or Squibnocket
1) There are NO open fires allowed in the State of Massachusetts.
2) All fires on the beach must be contained in a grill.
3) NO fires are to be left unattended.
4) Grills are to be placed at a minimum of twenty-five feet from any beach grass, and are NOT to be placed on the dunes.
5) Fires must be extinguished at the end of use; contents (cooking coals) must be buried at a minimum of two feet below the sand, in the inter-tidal zone and then doused with water.
7) If event is catered a copy of regulation must be provided to caterer, catered events must fill out caters report form to be approved by Board of Health.($100.00 fee for catered events).
