Chilmark Beach Committee
September 21st, 2010
Present: Clarissa Allen, Pam Bunker, Kristin Maloney, Wayne Iacono & Steve Mcquiggan
Meeting called to order 5:00 pm
Voted to approve the minutes from August 24th, 2010.
Lightly reviewed budget to project what is left to open the beach next June, this review will need to continue, not enough information to make a definite determination at this point in time.
Superintendent submitted a written summary of the end of the summer beach season.
Discussion took place about the type of board walk to be installed at Lucy Vincent Beach. One committee member raised the concern that the Conservation Commission specified “removable” walk way. Motion made to purchase board walk, not construct the board walk in-house. Motion seconded , voted to approve one member abstained.
Jim Glavin is now the person who was hired to install and remove Squibnocket stairs before and after the beach season. It is necessary to obtain an estimate from him for the upcoming FY2012 budget.
Beach committee discussed the staffing for the upcoming 2010 season, motion made to have One Guard in Menemsha & 2 guards in the late afternoon at Squibnocket beach. Motion seconded, voted unanimously.
Beach committee discussed the idea of having the sticker clerk work until 1pm since there will be no mail-in program this year. A suggestion was made to have 2 sticker clerks work together the first week of sticker sales. This will have to be reviewed, making sure the budget can accommodate this. Also, will this extra hour complicate the staffing of the gate at Squibnocket beach.
Review of warrant article for purchasing additional boardwalk and fund cleaning position for the beach debris to be removed. And dumping fees.
Next meeting will be Tuesday November 16, 2010 at 5:00pm.
