The Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head (Aquinnah)’s Natural Resources Department is hosting a meeting to discuss the current state of the island’s herring fishery. For many years river herring and alewives have been in drastic decline across the eastern seaboard. So how are river herring populations fairing on the island, on the cape, and in the state? It’s time to start strategizing with the community and professional agencies on ways to bring back this valuable resource.
Please join us Monday, February 12th, at 9am at the Wampanoag Tribal Community Center in Aquinnah for an open discussion on the island’s herring fishery. This is a great opportunity to bring together fishery managers, watershed organizations, state and federal agencies, and the interested public. We will be opening up the discussion to those in attendance, so please let us know if you are interested in sharing your experiences, observations, and ideas. RSVP with Andrew by emailing ajacobs@wampanoagtribe.net so we can have an accurate count of attendance. Thank you.
